A Letter of Gratitude PDF Print E-mail

Packages From Home would like to thank everyone who considered PFH their charity of choice in 2011! As we move forward to 2012 let's not forget the sacrifice of the men and women who have served this country. Let's all be thankful for those who arrived home safely from Iraq. It is important that we remain committed to the thousands of men and women still currently serving in our United States Armed Forces, in combat zones. Let's commit to continuing our mission and doing it well.

(This letter came to us from a base in Afghanistan after they had received their shipment from Packages From Home.)

Dear Packages from Home friends and supporters. I'm here at COP Garcia in Afghanistan as a DOD Civilian and my friend gave you guys some names of soldiers here. They couldn't release a full roster for OPSEC reasons, but I provided the names of a few I knew. You sent some great packages.

Today the mail bird landed (everything that comes and goes is by helicopter) and there were a few more extra packages. Two of the soldiers whose names I submitted were there and asked "Who is sending me this?" I told them about your organization and they were real happy, especially since it was a nice surprise a couple days After Christmas. You also sent two boxes which the guys thought were magazines since they were so heavy. They didn't seem too excited. I opened the box right there and it was like 100 Snickers bars!!! and about 100 Reese's cups!!! (maybe more) They were stoked and since it's pretty cold here, chocolate travels just fine. The guys there at mail call took their fill, then I took the boxes around to other soldiers chilling and they started pulling guys out of the B-Huts. They were so excited. Lots of smiles and Thank Yous. Then I saw a group getting ready to head out on mission and they cleared out the rest (practically tore the box apart LOL). I just wanted you all to know that your thoughtfulness and effort brought some smiles to a tiny little combat outpost today (the soldiers here are infantry, field artillery, etc - all business if you get my drift). It's pretty rough out here for these men sometimes (and us too). Sometimes the frustration and pain that one overhears in the MWR phone room is pretty sad (can't help it, it's a very small room and the only place to access Facebook). So anytime I can help lift someone up here, I'll do what I can. I have a bunch of friends who did the same and we were able to make Christmas here pretty special through tons of packages that they sent. Anyway, thank you so much again. Anytime you want to do something like that again, I'll be sure to make sure it goes exactly where it's supposed to go. God Bless, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year.
