Socks and What Else? PDF Print E-mail

They say an army travels on its stomach, but in Afghanistan our troops are finding that a lack of socks makes traveling difficult. In fact, they don’t have much of anything in the way of hygiene products (anyone have an old Sears Catalog we could send for toilet paper?). We’re doing what we can, and you can help. Here’s a short list of much-needed items:

  • Warm White or Black socks (tube type/calf length)
  • Fleece or Thermal blankets
  • Toilet Paper
  • Lotion (unscented is best)
  • Chapstick
  • Baby Wipes
  • Sunscreen
  • Eye drops
  • Hand and Foot warmers (sports dept. at Walmart)

While it’s still hot in Afghanistan, when you think of their weather, you have to think “Montana.” Much of the country is mountainous, and in some parts of the country, the lowest mountain passes are higher than our highest mountain passes. The winters can be brutally cold and we want to get warm, winter gear to our troops BEFORE they need it.

We have a number of drop locations around the city to make it easy for you to donate. If you live outside the Phoenix area, feel free to send a check made out to Packages From Home and marked “Socks” and we’ll shop for you and save you the shipping.
