About Packages From Home

Packages From Home Supports Our Troops

Packages From Home collects donated items and postage funds from generous, patriotic citizens and businesses who live throughout America. These items include non-perishable food, personal toiletries, and recreational items such as games, sporting equipment, books, music, movies, video game consoles, and more.  View our complete Wish List of needed and accepted items.

The organization’s staff and volunteers carefully pack the donations into U.S.P.S. Flat-Rate Priority Mail boxes, and larger boxes for bulk shipments to overseas military bases. The packages are then mailed to deployed, U.S. servicemen and women whose names and addresses have been securely submitted via our website by caring friends and family.  If you would like to sign up a service member in need, please sign them up to receive Packages From Home.

Packages For Hope

Developed in 2012, the Packages For Hope program seeks to aid veterans who are in transition, homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless.  Packages From Home works directly with the Arizona Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Buckeye Outreach for Social Services (B.O.S.S.), and other local veterans outreach experts to provide food and hygiene items to veterans who are in need.

Bones From Home

In 2015, Bones From Home was created to serve the nearly 3,000 Military Working Dogs active worldwide by providing military-approved food, grooming, toy and training products to service canines and their handlers.  Bones From Home also extends its program to local veterans service dogs and retired military canines.

How Packages From Home Began

Packages From Home began as a labor of love for founder, Kathleen Lewis’ son, Christian, a soldier with the Army’s 1st Infantry Division.

On September 11, 2001, Christian turned on the TV and was shocked to learn about the devastating terrorist attacks that had occurred that morning.  Motivated by patriotism and a strong sense of duty, Christian responded by leaving his home and enlisting in the United States Army that same day.

In March 2004, Christian was deployed to Iraq and Kathleen began sending care packages to him on a regular basis.  Christian loved the care packages and told Kathleen that receiving familiar items not only provided the comforts of home that he missed so much, but also reminded him that someone was thinking of him, which helped him combat the loneliness and dangers of deployed life.  Receiving the packages motivated him to fight for his country and come home safe to his friends and family.

But Christian also delivered some sad news.  He told his mom that he was the only solider in his squad receiving packages and letters from home.  Kathleen rallied her closest friends and decided to “adopt” Christian’s entire squad.  The group began shipping packages to all of the troops in Christian’s unit and Packages From Home was born.

On May 25, 2004, Packages From Home became an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with the mission of sending care and comfort packages to deployed American military heroes stationed in active duty theaters around the world, as well as facilitating activities that elevate morale of all veterans.

To date, Packages From Home has helped nearly one million deployed service people by shipping over 100,000 flat rate care packages and more than 300,000 pounds of bulk items.
